Design Biennale Zurich 2023

An invitation to perceive the ordinary in an extraordinary way

In the Old Botanical Garden, I showed a selection of photographs that I have taken – impulsively or deliberately – over the last few years. Some document decisive phases in my work as a designer and product developer. They were taken while projects were in the development stage and are therefore perhaps puzzling to people not involved in the process. However, most of the photographs result from chance observations – ‘stumbled with the eyes’, as it were: the accidentally comic, the unintentional design, beauty in adversity, or simply the breathtaking impressions we encounter in nature. These collected images – printed on laminated fabric hung from bamboo poles – invited visitors to the Design Biennale to reflect for a moment, to take a closer look where they may have thought there’s nothing to see.
