The two-legged-chair, Mark Müller Gallery, Zurich

Greatest possible freedom of thought transcending conventional logic

The title seems nonsensical – what could be more absurd than a two-legged chair? Yet once the idea has been planted in your brain, familiar truths can start looking shaky. The exhibition at the Mark Müller Gallery – curated by Susanne Koeberle, Jörg Boner and myself – has plenty more mischief up its sleeve. It ingeniously juggles sense and nonsense, but goes far beyond the merely comic. The works on display appear to have nothing in common, other than the power to pull the rug from under the viewer’s feet.

My contribution consists of two series of photographs called ‘Faux jumeaux’ and ‘Plenty of chairs’. The first shows random pairs of objects that cannot be described as twins. The second isn’t so much about chairs as about the countless ways in which chairs may be positioned.
