Memento Mori for Helmrinderknecht Contemporary Design

Objects that celebrate death and life

The fear of loss and death is something we all have to come to terms with at some point in our lives. I tried to approach the subject in a straightforward and yet creative way and began doing some research on it. The Romans already kept the ashes of their dead in urns made of glass. This inspired me to create glass eggs to contain mortal remains, kept in a bowl made of walnut wood. Or to a reliquary of cut glass, where the ashes remain visible.

At the time, I received a request from Helmrinderknecht for a solo show in Berlin. I was encouraged to pursue the subject further, and I designed the collection Memento Mori. Objects that recall the fragility of existence and the beauty of life.
