"Luxuskunst" at Museum Bellerive

Showing the range of the collection in terms of containers

Museum Bellerive invited designers to think about uniqueness and serial production. I focused on containers, using the applied arts collection of Bellerive and the design collection of the Museum für Gestaltung for the industrial products. In the process, I realized that industrial doesn’t necessarily mean "large series," while craftsmanship doesn’t always mean "one of a kind." I created a matrix that stretched from "unique object" to "series" and from "craftsmanship" to "industry," thus achieving a comparison of the most various containers, from plastic bowls in large series to industrially produced individual objects, from a hand-made ceramic vase to serially-made, hand-painted country tableware.
