St. Judas Thaddäus Catholic Church, Eglisau

Liturgical materials that reflect the simplicity of this house of worship

This simple building with quite ordinary windows was erected in 1950 and renovated in 2018. It is only on second glance, when light fills the space, that we discover its reticent charm and modernity. For example, in the elliptical form of the arch: we have taken this up as a kind of main theme and played through it in many different variations: altar, pulpit, baptismal font, and shelving all play with the shape of the ellipse in their own way. They were all hewn from pietra smeralda, a quartzite from the area of the Splüngen Pass. Strong red glass vessels for vases and the sanctuary lamp form a lively contrast to the cool grey-green of the stone and the gray of the rear wall of the chancel, which lends the space more depth.
