"Gay Chic," Museum für Gestaltung Zürich

Creating a platform for an attempt at explanation

Disco, bedroom, night club, fashion boutique, changing rooms: the interior that we designed for the exhibition Gay Chic alludes to all of these sites. Linking elements are stools and benches with mirrored fronts and a refined palette of color that takes the rainbow flag to a new level. Against this backdrop, pioneers such as Oscar Wilde, fashion pioneer Yves Saint-Laurent, the artist Manon, or the supposedly metrosexual David Beckham meet alongside unknown models shot by famous and not-so-famous photographers. Countless image and text documents try to explain how subculture could become something like mainstream.
