Deeply Superficial Objects

A Baroque project: nothing is as it seems

Crystalline shapes or faceted bodies have interested me for some time now. This has resulted in various design elements and practical objects for everyday use, including the Deeply Superficial Objects: fourteen shapes, from regular or irregular polyhedrons to compressed or elongated dodecahedrons.

What interested me in making these objects was the combination of digital manufacturing and craftsmanship. The objects were modelled on a computer in 3D and cut from Styrofoam with a computer controlled hot wire. The cold glaze was first applied with a brush by hand, in a second step cast from above over the objects.

The Deeply Superficial Objects were shown for the first time in 2007 at the Zurich gallery Franziska Kessler Decorative Design.
